Tagging
We have slightly fancy tagging capabilities on this board, and it'd be nice to help make things organised and easy to find!
You can tag things with more or less anything with no spaces in it. If you need spaces, you can put an underscore (_) in the box, and it'll turn into a space in the tag sidebar.
We also have categorised tags, which allows us to be a little more specific. At the moment we have categories for Characters, Worlds, People, Photographers and Avatars.
The Photographer category is the easiest - if your image is pulled from the Discord automatically, it'll automatically be tagged with your photographer tag, for example, mine is photographer:ticky. The goal is to use this for attribution if we end up using the photos in things like our custom VRChat worlds - we'll ask first, of course :)
What's the difference between that and People? People is intended to indicate the people who are in the photo - a selfie would have your photographer and person tag, but a photo you took of others would just have your photographer tag. This way it's easy to find all the pictures of you on here - handy!
Okay, and then there's Characters and Avatars - this is probably going to be the least used of these, obviously some avatars are characters and some are not, so it's down to taste, but if you have a specific character you're playing in VRChat, you can use this to distinguish it. Avatars is intended for public avatars which aren't your character.
Worlds is pretty fun - geolocation for VRChat, effectively. Tag photos with where they were taken, so it's easy to collect all the pics from a place we keep going back to!
A lot of these tags have been defined already, so you can have a peek into the tag list to see what's there. Due to technical limitations, this page doesn't show you the category name, but you should be able to see it by hovering over the links, and each colour is a different category.
Finally, it's possible to create aliases and implicit tags - so for example anything tagged world:ShaderFes_2021 is also automatically tagged world:ShaderFes.
Likewise, some people's Discord handles don't match those they use most often, and Discord also recently messed with this for everyone, so they can be renamed automatically in the gallery. If you want one of these created, of if you have any other concerns, let one of the admins know!
Tags also have wiki pages - if you see a tag with a ? to the left, that links to our wiki for that tag. Feel free to edit these pages and add context. It's nice for adding links to worlds we like, or linking off to other places if it's helpful.
Unfortunately the wiki doesn't currently have an index of pages, and the tags page doesn't link to the wiki, only individual images, but hopefully someday that'll become nicer!
